South Korean idol singers, hip-hop and punk artists are set to showcase music on the upcoming South by Southwest festival in United States and at United Kingdom’s The Great Escape festival.
SXSW is a yearly festival held in Austin, Texas. This year’s event will be held from March 10-19 while TGE is a three-day music festival mostly held in Brighton and Hove, England. This year’s event will be conducted from May 18 to 20.
On Tuesday, Korea Creative Content Agency and the Culture Ministry have jointly hosted the event participating the “K-Pop Night Out.”
The said even is conducted every year. It aims to showcase artists from different genre along with just one or two big names from Korean idol singers.
KpopHerald reported last year’s line up for the event were the Crayon Pop, Epik High, Asian Chairshot, EE, Hitchhiker, Eastern Sidekick and the Barberettes.
This year’s lineup consist of the famous girl group Red Velvet, the star couple rapper Tiger JK and Yoon Mi Rae. Sistar’s Hyolyn, Big Phone and No Brain including Galaxy Express.
Additional artists to perform in SXSW are Kim Ban Jang, Windy City, Glen Check, Luna Lee, XXX and Neon Bunny, who were invited by the organizers.
TGE in Britain will also feature Sultan of the Disco, Monotones and the rapper, MC Sniper.
“I think it’s important to show off our own colors (as artists). Some Asian artists tend to get timid in a foreign country, but the music is a language in itself,” said Lee Sung-woo, leader and vocalist for punk rock band No Brain.
Meanwhile, Tiger JK encouraged musicians to have their own style in music saying, “There’s no exact answer (on how to be successful overseas), but I think trying your best to make your own kind of music would give you the best shot.”
