Ahead of its premiere on July 3, tvN’s newest television series titled “Bride of the Water God” held a press conference. As this is a fantasy series, some fans and reporters asked the casts regarding the similarities of this TV series to the famous and high-rated drama “Goblin.”
On June 27, Nam Joo Hyuk, who will portray the role of the water god Ha Baek, responded to the question and said he did not feel any burdens for the character he has taken of. In fact, he finds the narrative of the story fun.
A reporter also raised the question regarding the possible similarities between the actor’s character to Gong Yoo’s character in “Goblin.”
“It isn’t something that I thought of beforehand. When reading the script, that way of speaking just naturally came out,” Nam Joo Hyuk reportedly said, as Soompi cited.
To recall, “Goblin” become the highest-rated tvN series which starred Gong Yoo, Kim Go Eun, Lee Dong Wook, Yoo In Na and Yook Sungjae. It was written by the famous writer, Kim Eun Sook.
Meanwhile, “Bride of the Water God” is also a fantasy romance series just like “Goblin.” It features water god Ha Baek (Nam Joo Hyuk) who descends to earth to meet his human bride, Yoon So Ah (Shin Se Kyung).
Many fans have noted the similarities between the two TV series since Gong Yoo’s character, Kim Shin is also a goblin who need to meet his wife (Kim Go Eun) to end his life. But “Bride of the Water God” is a TV adaptation of the famous Korean manhwa of the same title.
“Bride of the Water God” will premiere on July 3 on tvN at 10:50 p.m. KST. Watch the trailer below:
